The Urban Digital Twin – according to the most recent definitions – consists of a series of technological infrastructures that enable virtual representations of cities. Its primary purpose is the analysis and understanding of urban dynamics, made possible through the use of models and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and simulation. The projects carried out by CISC CNR refer to the UDT definition coined by the European Commission in 2020, from which all reference legislation derives: “Urban Digital Twins are the virtual representation of a city’s physical assets, processes and systems, using data, data analytics and machine learning to help simulation models that can be updated and changed in real time as their physical equivalents change.”
