The Model

General Methodological Approach

The Model describes the methodological pathway through which CISC experiments with and refines tools for reading and designing the contemporary city. It is an open process that transforms research results into practical methodologies and predictive scenarios capable of guiding urban policies based on evidence and real data.

Phase 1

Guidelines approved by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and delivered on 28 May 2023.

The first phase led to the definition of the City Science Guidelines, a founding document that outlined the principles, objectives, and criteria for applying the model. This represents the starting point for field experimentation and the translation of theoretical concepts into concrete urban practices.

Phase 2

Guidelines approved by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and delivered on 28 May 2023.

The second phase, currently underway, involves updating and evolving the model based on the results obtained from pilot projects and newly emerged urban challenges.
This updated version, represented by an interactive timeline, translates the experience gained into a progressive implementation path, aimed at strengthening the application of the guidelines and extending their impact to Italian cities adopting the “City Science” approach.
